This project has examined adversity, specifically the consequences when someone reacts positively to their struggles. The strength of this study is that it has a theme applicable to everybody, as everyone experiences some form of adversity in their lifetime. The nonfiction and informational pieces from this study show how successful people have overcome struggles in their life despite the temptation to succumb to challenges. The most important part of this collection is to demonstrate that someone is not defined by what difficulties they face. Howie Mandel, who struggles with highly stigmatized mental illness, has once been ashamed that others would label him or judge him as crazy or mentally unstable. However, he has proven that mental illness is no different than physical and should not cause someone shame or embarrassment through his success and fame.
If given more time to work on this project, the visual piece would have been more elaborate, i.e. more painting supplies would have been purchased. As someone without any artistic training, it was fairly difficult to envision and create a painting, then decide what colours or techniques to use, how to express the theme through the art piece, and what kind of brushes are required to make certain textures on the canvas. But as someone who enjoys writing stories, the fictional piece was extremely easy to create after quickly brainstorming how the story should be crafted to portray the thesis statement of the study. Initially, it was decided that the fiction piece would be about a girl whose mother died, but channelled her grief positively and became a successful doctor, as she wanted to be when she was young. Yet as the writing process continued, it seemed more unexpected to change the ending. Since all of the other pieces were mostly positive, a story with a negative or sad ending would be more interesting to read. It is meant to be different than the others in that it takes to opposite look on adversity, which ultimately enhances the study by showing the consequences of not overcoming adversity.
This multi genre collection supplies readers with both perspectives to adversity, both negative and positive. With this knowledge, it is expected the audience can understand adversity does not define someone’s disposition, and also that it is certainly attainable to vanquish one’s own struggles. With a universal theme, this multigenre project provides inspiration to all readers to acknowledge their own adversities and understand it is crucial to overcome and cope with.

You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them."

It is your reaction to adversity, not the adversity itself, that determines how your life’s story will develop."
